Since the creation of our first web applications, Echoline has ensured their compatibility with as many browsers as possible, thus leaving our users with the choice of the tool that best suits them to navigate the Internet. Since our customers are mainly professionals and businesses, we supported successive versions of Internet Explorer up to the latest version 11, released in October 2013, because it is still widely deployed on corporate computer systems, often for historical reasons.
The Echoline app is now more comprehensive than ever — and we still have a lot of ideas in store. Ensuring the support of a browser that has not kept up with the technological developments of the last ten years in terms of performances, of security And of compatibility represents a significant investment, and after considering usage data one last time, we have chosen to no longer support Internet Explorer.
📊 On what criteria is our decision based?
Our tools for statistical analysis of the use of the application tell us An extremely low number (which can be counted on the fingers of one hand) connections to our application through Internet Explorer since the beginning of 2021. This is not surprising: fewer and fewer sites support it, and Microsoft has been advising against the use of its old browser for several years now., for reasons of performance but also and above all for security.
In addition, thanks to the efforts of web browser developers to prove the robustness of their solutions, it is now possible to use at least one recent browser in addition to Internet Explorer on professional parks. We therefore concluded that supporting Internet Explorer was no longer necessary, and this decision also allows us to consider faster evolutions of our application.
📈 What are the benefits for your experience with Echoline?
By no longer supporting Internet Explorer, we are immediately reducing the amount of code needed to run the application: This results in reduced download times and less memory usage on your computer.
We will also be able to update the technologies we use for our web application: indeed, many projects — often Open source when it comes to the web — have chosen in recent months to also abandon Internet Explorer support, for the same reasons of performance and scalability. So we are following suit, with the assurance of better overall performance of our application: shorter load times and less use of your computer's memory for constant functionalities and data volume.
💻 What browsers are supported?
Echoline will now ensure the support of the main browsers benefiting from regular updates:
- Chrome (Google, all platforms)
- firefox (Mozilla Foundation, all platforms)
- Safari (Apple, macOS only)
- Edge (Microsoft, Windows, and macOS only)
